Event
69600 Kaustinen, Finland
Deadline: 31 May 2025
ETHNO is an international music camp for participants aged 16-30 years, where traditional music from different countries is learned by ear in workshops led by the participants themselves. Learning and arranging the tunes is led by artistic mentors. At Ethno, everyone — participants, artistic mentors, and organisers — work as a team. During the Ethno gathering, there is time for sharing, connection, learning music and of course plenty of fun! Ethno Finland, organized by Finnish Folk Music Association, is a smaller camp that offers a unique opportunity to truly connect with each and every participant. The camp takes place in the small village of Kaustinen, renowned for its rich heritage in traditional folk music. The traditional fiddle playing style from Kaustinen has earned a spot on UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Each year, during the second week of July, Kaustinen comes alive with people gathering from all corners of Finland and the world to celebrate the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival. Ethno Finland precedes this festival, taking place in the week leading up to the main event. The camp's main performances will be featured on some of the biggest stages at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival. Ethno Finland takes place from June 30th to July 9th, while the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival extends from July 7th to 13th. We invite you to join us for the entire week of the Kaustinen festival after the camp and participate in the additional Ethno events throughout the festival week. The application fee covers housing, all meals and transportation to and from the concerts. Transportation to and from the camp to Kaustinen and meals during the festival week will be at your own expense. After submitting your application you will receive more information about the selection process and schedule. The selection process aims to ensure cultural and musical diversity as well as gender and age equality within the group.
