JMI CRASH COURSE IN INTERCULTURAL LEARNING & MUSIC ACTIVITIES CYPRUS CULTURE SUMMIT Where: Limassol, Cyprus When: December 06-11, 2022 CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS The event consists of two interlinked and consecutive activities – the JMI Crash Course on Intercultural Learning in Music and Youth Activities December 06-08 and the Cyprus Culture Summit December 08-10, therefore, the participants registering for the Crash course will also have the opportunity to fully participate in the Culture Summit. As organizations continue to operate and compete globally, it is important for staff and volunteers involved in or responsible for learning and development to focus on expanding their training and knowledge in intercultural work. The overall objective of the crash course, therefore, is for people working in the field of non-formal learning and youth work in music associations that combine youth and music as two key aspects of their daily tasks, to expand their skills when it comes to intercultural learning and intercultural dialogue when working with young people. More concretely, in two days’ time together we will: - Introduce participants to the concept of intercultural learning within the framework of non-formal education and the NGO sector; - To promote intercultural dialogue and learning as part of international music activities for young people; - To promote inclusion, tolerance and mutual understanding; - Explore key obstacles and seek out existing or new solutions to intercultural youth work; - Focus on the development and the promotion of a new positive narrative of inclusion through good examples in international, cross-border, creative and innovative youth work activities. - explore different methods and best practices to motivate young people into intercultural dialogue & intercultural learning. - Present key existing funding opportunities and resources for intercultural work; The course is open to young cultural workers and organizers coming from different music organizations and working predominantly with young people, either as full or part-time professional staff or volunteers within the organization. The course aims to enable them to develop and/or to expand on already existing intercultural competencies, for example, their ability to communicate effectively across different cultures and to work with people from different cultural backgrounds, to try out different methods to work with young people with a focus on intercultural dialogue (peer to peer learning, learning by doing, gamification and storytelling) and to act as multipliers of the skills learned in their own communities and activities. ABOUT CYPRUS CULTURE SUMMIT 2022 The Conference marks an important milestone in the roadmap towards establishing a platform for the Cypriot creators and advocates of music to build links, share ideas, and develop new ways of working with the international music sector. This highly interactive event will provide information and working sessions on issues related to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a blueprint for action, advocacy and partnership in the international music field. It will also provide an opportunity to refine and communicate commitments of actions and pledges from key European and international stakeholders in the sector. It will offer to around 100 participants a programme of conference sessions, networking events, workshops and meetings. In addition, individual program items will be curated by relevant partner international organizations and networks. Attendees will share experiences and explore ideas on how to jointly overcome the challenges the sector is facing today, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, how to envisage and build sustainable careers in music today, and design effective development strategies. We will also look at the challenges that artists and organizations face in the modern era, how to best employ music as a tool for social change and uplift and discuss a number of other key issues in the current state of the music sector. In addition to the above, the event will provide participants with an excellent opportunity for networking, in their efforts of establishing a sustainable network of partner and stakeholder organizations and people, with particular emphasis on Euro-Mediterranean collaboration. Therefore, this event will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of: - recent developments and current state of affairs in the international music sector - lessons learnt from the covid-19 pandemic and - eventual results/outcomes for the sector areas of more possible in-depth cooperation of the various international music sector stakeholders and advocates The event will offer a programme of activities allowing open and constructive dialogue and self-reflection. It will include the following key elements: Innovation in the music sector; Insights into funding and financing; Digital shift in the music sector; Towards a greener music sector; Reskilling and upskilling in CCS; Inclusion (migration, equality, gender balance). ABOUT EPCR (https://en.epcr.org.cy/): The Organisation for European Programmes and Cultural Relations was established in 2020 by the Republic of Cyprus government with the aim to promote and disseminate contemporary Cypriot artistic creation and to contribute in every possible way to their European and international cultural networking. The Organisation is operating as the National Contact Point for the Creative Europe and Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programs, as well as serves as the national member of the New European Bauhaus initiative and the European Union National Institutes for Culture network. Moreover, the Organisation undertakes the continuation of the actions related to the operation of the Cyprus Centre for Music Research, Innovation and International Networking. PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS This event is open to 20 young organizers (below 35 years of age) engaged in cultural organisations from the JMI network and beyond either as staff or volunteers, able to present and discuss the youth and music activities they organize and with good working knowledge of English. Participants may apply from any country globally. CONDITIONS - JMI covers the event participation fee, accommodation, food and travel (local transportation, international flights within travel limits of Eur 400 per return ticket per participant). - Participants cover travel insurance, visa costs, health-related costs, and personal expenses. PRACTICAL INFORMATION When choosing your flights, you can choose between the airports in Larnaca and Paphos (served by most low-cost carriers). JMI and the local organizers will provide local shuttles (taxies) to bring you to Limassol. Accommodation is in a local 3star hotel, with shared double bedrooms. Arrivals are foreseen for December 06 in the afternoon, the course opening is at 18:00. Departures are foreseen for December 11th after breakfast. APPLY NOW!
